We have read durability complaints about these sheets, but the problem doesn’t seem pervasive. Hawkins New York Stonewashed Linen Bedding: We were drawn to these sheets when we saw them on Food52, but the pillowcase we tried felt very rough and after five washes it wrinkled a lot. If your sheets are really wrinkled out of the dryer, Rose recommends dampening them slightly and letting them air dry. Speaking of pillowcases, my pillow did manage to wiggle itself out a bit more than it did with competing sets from Linoto and Parachute, which I also tested. If that’s more than you’re willing to pay, we’d recommend first buying a flat sheet and cases for about $240, and using a percale fitted sheet. Based on these initial tests, we brought in five sets for sleep testing. To clean them on your own, machine-wash cold on a gentle cycle with non-chlorine bleach. If you are open to different colors, you may be able to choose a less expensive option. Linen grain can be quite noticeable, but this set looks more like a smooth cotton sheet from far away. The set would be the perfect gift for a parent looking to treat kids graduating college and renting their first adult apartments. With linen, some people prefer to use two flat sheets, one folded around the mattress with hospital corners. We used the hanging loops, but all three options would look nice. We found these sheets to be a little grainier than Cultiver’s, but they’re beautifully constructed and you can buy individual pieces.
